The Journal of the American Medical Association reports that in 2005 there were 5,702 work related deaths in the United States. The good news is that is an 8% reduction in the number of deaths since 1992. The bad news is that each of these deaths was avoidable. Owners and contractors need to step up their efforts to insure worker safety. ITT, a major corporation, has set a goal of zero injuries. Others should follow their lead.
