A 67 year old Massachusetts woman sustained serious personal injuries when the car she was driving was rear-ended by several tractor trailers on the New Jersey Turnpike. The truck immediately behind her drove over the side of her SUV and crushed it.

Trucks routinely exceed the posted speed limits on the New Jersey Turnpike. In addition, there are many situations when drivers use performance enhancing drugs to keep them awake. This inevitably leads to catastropohic injuries when these tractor trailers, driven by tired truckers, collide with unsuspecting drivers.

Our client sustained injuries including serious head trauma with intracranial bleeding, fractures and artery lacerations all of which necessitated multiple surgeries. She still suffers from post concussive symptomology, back pain, limited range of motion in her shoulder and upper extremities and residual numbness in her hand. She has lost most the use of her primary arm.

Because of other drivers’ carelessness she will suffer for the rest of her life. Her case, recently filed in the Superior Court of New Jersey, is an example of a meritorious lawsuit and why civil lawsuits are important. The negligent drivers of these trucks must be held personally responsible for their negligence.

Consumer groups like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and Parents Against Tired Truckers, along with Washington, D.C. based Citizen Action, work hard to strengthen laws that protect innocent drivers from negligent truckers.

Hopefully, legislators will pass laws restricting the number of hours truckers can drive and the police will enforce existing laws dealing with speeding truckers.
