With the advent of Google News, it is possible to find all the car crashes that happen each day relatively soon after they occur. If you set your Google Alert for the words “car crash” or “auto crash” it will prove to be a horrendous experience. Every single day there are heartbreaking stories about those killed in auto crashes. The latest is a 16 year old rear seat passenger who died when her 18 year old driver hit a dump truck at 4:30 AM. What they were doing driving at that hour is anyone’s guess, but parents must do more to instill in our children the dangers of teen driving. The young woman was Kira Elwood of Forest, Ohio. She died 15 hours after arriving at the hospital. The driver, Mark Flowers, 18, was also killed and another passenger, Jordan Kober, 18, was treated and released. With nearly 45,000 traffic deaths a year, that equates to 123 deaths per day. We all need to work together to solve this problem.
