Yesterday, March 1, 2007, tornadoes tore through Alabama leaving behind devastation and death, including the death of at least 15 students and teachers in Enterprise, Alabama. This immense tragedy provides proof that as a nation we are not taking the necessary steps to protect ourselves from potential natural disasters. While there is nothing we can do to stop a natural disaster from occurring, we can limit the destruction and personal devastation by implementing procedures to provide safety. We need to change the way we think about natural disasters and become proactive as opposed to reactive. Our schools and communities must be prepared. Visit the Red Cross website to learn how to better prepare yourself and your family for any potential tragedy.
