Last week, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission launched its new SaferProducts.gov database—a user-friendly website that allows consumers to quickly and easily report products that have posed a safety hazard, and to find important safety information about products they own or are thinking about buying.

Reports of dangerous products entered into the site, www.SaferProducts.gov, are reviewed by the CPSC before being transferred to the manufacturer within five days. The manufacturer has 10 days to respond to the reports; these responses are then posted online along with the initial reports.

It is important that consumers provide CPSC with information that is true and accurate to the best of their knowledge. Reports lacking required information will not be published. Similarly, information in a report of harm determined to be materially inaccurate within the 10 days provided to manufacturers to respond will not be published. Reports that potentially contain confidential information will have such information taken out before the report is posted. –CPSC

If you have experienced a safety incident with any product, please report it right away to the CPSC at www.SaferProducts.gov or call CPSC’s Hotline at (800) 638-2772. Your report could potentially save lives.
