A couple in Howard County, Maryland is suing the owners of their apartment complex for $500 thousand dollars, claiming that the owners didn’t properly treat a bedbug infestation in an apartment adjacent to theirs. As a result, the couple’s apartment became infested as well, and they and their three-year-old daughter fell victim to the bedbugs.

According to the lawsuit, filed last week in Howard County Circuit Court, the apartment owners hired exterminators who inspected but neglected to treat the couple’s apartment. After developing dozens of red itchy welts, the family had to move out of their apartment and discard most of their furniture as well as all of their daughter’s toys, all of which caused “significant emotional distress.”

Bedbug infestations are currently on a disturbing rise across America, with major cities like New York, Washington, DC and Philadelphia ranking among the ten worst in the nation. To help prevent their spread, particularly to your home, make sure to follow these important guidelines.
